SpaceX Is Public: The First 13F Filings Show Who Bought (Q2 2026)

For two years, the most anyone could say about SpaceX ownership came from fund disclosures of privately held stakes. That changed on June 12, when Space Exploration Technologies (SPCX) began trading on the Nasdaq after pricing the largest initial public offering in history — $135 a share, roughly $75 billion raised, a valuation near $1.77 trillion. The first quarterly ownership filings covering the debut are now arriving, and they offer the earliest look at who actually bought.

Eighteen days of public life, 206 institutional owners

The June 30 report date falls just eighteen days after the debut. So far, 1,255 institutional managers have filed for the quarter — about one in seven of the 8,811 that reported last quarter — and 206 of them already show a SpaceX position, worth $1.24 billion combined.

For scale: CoreWeave (CRWV), the biggest listing of 2025, counted 410 institutional holders in its first full quarter — with the entire filing universe reporting. SpaceX is halfway there with roughly 86% of this quarter's filings still to come.

Horizontal bar chart of the largest SpaceX positions in early Q2 2026 filings: Swedbank AB $608M, Hyperion Asset Management $201M, Cannae Holdings $111M, Y-Intercept Hong Kong $42M, Cisco Systems $41M, Tema ETFs $32M, Strategic Planning Group $18M, Wealth Enhancement $17M, Zevenbergen Capital $17M, Brookstone Capital $14M

Sweden's Swedbank AB reported the largest position so far at $608 million, followed by Australian growth manager Hyperion Asset Management at $201 million and Cannae Holdings at $111 million. One name stands out on the list: Cisco Systems (CSCO) reported a $41 million stake — an operating company's treasury, not an asset manager.

Both parties bought within a week of the debut

Four members of the House disclosed SpaceX purchases inside a single week in June. John James (R-MI) bought on June 12 — the day it started trading — reporting $15,001–$50,000. John McGuire (R-VA) and Daniel Meuser (R-PA) followed on June 15, and Gilbert Cisneros (D-CA) on June 18. Disclosures report ranges rather than exact amounts, so the four purchases together represent somewhere between $32,000 and $130,000 — small money, but a bipartisan signal of attention in week one.

Musk's first filings show reshuffling, not selling

The only insider filings on record so far belong to Elon Musk: share awards dated back to February, and a series of June 15 share-class conversions tied to the listing itself. The lone sale anywhere in the filings is $1.2 million in early April at $105.32 a share — a private-market transaction from before the $135 offer. Nothing has been reported sold into the public market.

The funds that were already there

Sixty-four registered funds carried roughly $32.4 billion of SpaceX into the debut as privately held positions — stakes we tracked in April and June as the IPO approached. Fidelity Contrafund held $8.1 billion, Baron Partners Fund $3.9 billion, and Fidelity Blue Chip Growth $3.1 billion. On June 12, those estimates became ordinary public stock with a closing price — $160.95 by the end of the first day, 19% above the offer.

Fund disclosures covering June won't arrive until late summer. That's when the question we asked in our June piece — what a public SpaceX actually weighs in index funds — starts getting a real answer.

Notes

Institutional positions are from Q2 2026 13F filings received through July 16, 2026 — 1,255 filers of an expected ~8,800, with the filing deadline on August 14, so holder counts and values will rise substantially as the quarter completes. Congressional trades are STOCK Act disclosures, which report amount ranges only. Insider activity is from Form 4 filings. Pre-IPO fund positions are from N-PORT filings (February–May 2026 report dates) and reflect Level 3 fair-value estimates. The cross-fund view of pre-IPO SpaceX holdings is at SpaceX (private); the live ownership page is SPCX.
